How the Joris Foundation started

About us

Joris felt a responsibility to help the vulnerable children of Myanmar. With this dream in mind, the Joris Foundation aims for independence for this young generation, breaking the long-standing cycle of poverty.

"We cannot change the world, but we can take care of a small part of this world"

When Joris passed away in 2015, his family travelled to Myanmar to visit the village where he had been so happy. The original idea was to raise some money for this village. However, the enthusiasm of family and friends turned it into more than just a one-time donation. What began as a small initiative among loved ones grew into a fully registered foundation. Since then, the Joris Foundation has supported many children and built strong friendships in Lintha through many visits to this underprivileged village.

The economic situation in the small fishing village of Lintha is deeply concerning. With fishermen prohibited from taking their boats out to sea, there is no catch, and without fish, there is no work. The lack of income has led to widespread hardship, and hunger has become a harsh reality for many.

Mama Sue unwavering

Mummy Sue and her team live in Lintha village, located along the coastline of the Bay of Bengal in Myanmar’s Rakhine State. Despite the widely publicized political changes in Myanmar, little has improved for the villagers, who continue to face poverty, limited access to healthcare, inadequate state education, and poor nutrition. Recent political tensions in Rakhine State have only worsened their situation. Nevertheless, Mummy Sue and her team remain dedicated, working tirelessly to support the people of Lintha.
