The place that captured our hearts

Myanmar

“The education made possible by your donation will ensure that, in the coming decades, knowledgeable people will emerge who can lead this beautiful country to a better future”

Years of conflict in Myanmar have left one-third of its 51 million people living in poverty. Many are hungry and can’t afford medical care, and education is out of reach. The Joris Foundation believes that educating the younger generation is key to a better future.

While not political, the Joris Foundation cannot ignore the injustices in Myanmar. Change will come from the next generation.

Lintha, Myanmar

Far away, deep within Myanmar, a country now again suffering under the Junta, lies Lintha. A small village of around five hundred people, including many children, that once captured our hearts… Joris was so happy here.

Lintha is a small village on the Bay of Bengal, where fishermen hang up their nets and palm trees line the beach. Here stands a special school, known locally as Mummy Sue’s school. The school offers English education to underprivileged children, from preschool to university level, while also supporting healthcare and social welfare when possible.

We cherish Sue, her mission, and her dedicated team. With your help, we support them—building classrooms and toilets, providing bikes, medicines, and, most importantly, school lessons. Our hope is simple: that the children of Lintha will gain the skills to build a brighter future, for themselves and, one day, for Myanmar.
